Priced against the solicitor's bill, not the software market.

Portia's business plans are anchored to one number: what the same procedural work would cost you in solicitor fees. Entry is £149 a month, roughly half an hour of mid-market solicitor time. Use Portia once in a month for anything substantive, and it has already paid for itself.

The value

What the alternative actually costs.

A commercial dispute leaves you three real options: pay a solicitor by the hour, write the matter off, or handle it yourself with no structure and hope. Portia is the fourth. It captures most of the procedural value of representation, at a small fraction of the cost, so a matter that wasn't worth a solicitor is still worth handling properly.

A commercial debt recovered to judgment

£800 to £2,500

often, in solicitor fees

A defended employment claim

£5,000 to £15,000

frequently, plus your own time

metered by active matter

The plans

Three plans, metered by matter.

Every plan is metered by active matter, one dispute, against one party, that you're actively working on. You close a matter when it's done; nothing is billed by the hour or by the document.

Business

£149a month

Or £1,490 a year, with two months free.

For a single dispute you need to handle properly, an unpaid invoice, a contract gone wrong, a claim to answer.

One active matter, one user.

Business Pro

£349a month

Or £3,490 a year, with two months free.

For a business with a steady run of disputes, not one crisis but an ongoing pipeline.

Up to five active matters at once, and up to three people on the account.

Enterprise

£899a month

Or £8,990 a year, with two months free.

For businesses in active, high-stakes disputes, or handling them at volume.

Unlimited matters, unlimited seats, and the fullest support Portia offers.

Need to handle a spike? Active Matter Boost. If you're on Business or Business Pro and a matter tips you over your limit, you can add capacity for £99 a month per extra active matter, which drops away automatically when that matter closes. No permanent upgrade for a temporary busy patch.

Portia is still in build, and some of what the higher plans will include, extra seats, integrations, the deeper analytical tools, is arriving in stages. You're only charged for what's available to you, and each capability is added to your plan as it ships.

The thing businesses dread about legal cost is not knowing what it'll come to. Portia is the opposite:

  • a fixed monthly price
  • metered by matter
  • no per-hour billing and no surprise invoices

You know the number before you start, and it doesn't move because a matter got complicated.

The honest caveats

A few things to be straight about.

Portia does the procedural work, structuring and preparing your case; it isn't a solicitor, and for anything urgent, high in value, or legally complex, one is still the right call, and Portia will say so. When you'll be able to start with a full plan is 14 days free on Business Pro, no card, once we open. And we're not open yet, so nothing here is live; these are the plans as they'll be, and the waitlist is how you're first to them.

For most business disputes, the honest comparison isn't Portia against another tool. It's Portia against a bill you didn't want, or a matter you'd otherwise write off.
