about PORTIA
Building the
Infrastructure of Justice
Portia was founded to make the structural foundations of civil litigation more accessible to individuals navigating the system without representation.

Why Portia exists
The justice system runs on structure and that structure is often inaccessible to those navigating it alone. The company’s founder experienced this firsthand while representing himself in civil proceedings. The experience revealed something broader than any individual case.
Civil litigation is procedural, technical, and exacting.
Courts assess claims through recognised causes of action, evidentiary burdens, and formal rules.
For individuals without representation, even small structural errors can carry significant consequences.
Each year, thousands of litigants in person are expected to comply with the same procedural standards as represented parties, without access to equivalent structural support.
Portia was founded to address that gap. Not in opposition to the legal system. But in recognition that the system depends on structure — and that structure can be made more accessible.
A different foundation for Legal AI
Most AI systems in the legal sector are built to increase productivity for trained professionals. They help lawyers draft faster, review documents more efficiently, or manage workflows at scale.
Portia is built on a different foundation.
Where enterprise legal AI optimises for speed and output, Portia optimises for structural competence.
Portia is designed to narrow the gap — by embedding recognised legal structure directly into the tools available to individuals.

Justice, built on structure
Justice is procedural.
Outcomes depend on recognised causes of action, clearly articulated elements, and compliance with formal requirements. Portia is building justice infrastructure for individuals, AI-native systems that:
Structured Cases
Identify recognised legal foundations and map required elements
Intelligent Guidance
Validate structural completeness and encourage deliberate progression before submission
What guides us at Portia?
Our FOCUS
Portia begins with civil litigation in the UK.
Over time, the ambition is broader.

Legal systems around the world rely on structured reasoning.

Technology now makes it possible to encode and operationalise that structure with consistency and scale.
This is not a campaign. It is a construction project.
Why the name Portia?
Portia symbolises intelligence deployed in service of fairness. She stands through clarity, logic, and mastery of legal structure — not force.
The name reflects the company’s principles:
Precision over rhetoric
Structure over speed
Intelligence applied with integrity
Fairness grounded in recognised standards
